Spades Score Sheet
Updated
A Spades score sheet tracks each team's bid, the tricks it took, the score for the hand and a running total to 500. A made bid scores 10 points per trick bid plus 1 for each extra trick, or bag; a missed bid loses 10 per trick bid. The free sheet prints on Letter paper, one game or two to a page.
How to fill in a hand
- When the bidding ends, add the two partners' bids and write the team total under Bid. Mark a nil bidder with an N beside it.
- After the 13 tricks, write how many the team took.
- Score it: made the bid, 10 times the bid plus 1 for each extra trick; missed it, minus 10 times the bid. Add or take off 100 for a nil.
- Add the hand to the total. If the bags take the total's last digit past 9, take off 100.
Scoring examples
| Bid | Took | Hand score | Bags |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | 5 | +50 | 0 bags |
| 5 | 7 | +52 | 2 bags |
| 6 | 4 | -60 | set |
| 4 | 9 | +45 | 5 bags |
Pagat's own example: a team at 337 bids 5 and takes 7, scoring 52 for 389. Had it taken 8, it would score 53 but reach 10 bags and lose 100, ending at 290.
House rules
Spades is played many ways: some groups count bags as minus points, play to 300 or 250, need a minimum team bid of 4, or allow bids such as blind 6 and 10 for 200. The numbers here are the basic game on Pagat, the card game rules site run by John McLeod. The sheet records the bid and the tricks, so any of these rules can be scored on it.

Spades questions
What are bags in Spades?
Tricks a team takes beyond its bid. Each one adds 1 point, and every 10 a team collects cost it 100 points. Because a bag is worth 1, the last digit of a positive total shows how many bags are banked.
How much is a nil bid worth?
A player who bids nil and takes no tricks earns their team 100 points; one trick and the team loses 100. Blind nil, bid before looking at the cards, is worth 200 either way. The partner's bid is scored separately.
What score do you play Spades to?
500. If both teams pass it on the same hand, the higher total wins.
What happens if you miss your bid?
The team is set and loses 10 points for every trick it bid. Tricks it did take score nothing.
