Hand and Foot Score Sheet
Updated
A Hand and Foot score sheet keeps two teams' points over the four rounds. Each round has a row for clean, dirty and wild piles, red threes, going out, the cards you melded and the cards left in your hand and foot. The free sheet prints on Letter paper, one game or two to a page.
How to score a round
- Write the two team names at the top of round 1. Every round has the first meld minimum printed under its number.
- When someone goes out, or the stock runs out, count each team's completed piles of seven and write the bonus on its row: 500 for each clean pile, 300 for each dirty one, 1500 for a wild one.
- Add 100 for each red three on the table, and 100 for the team that went out.
- Count the cards in your melds and piles and write the total on the cards melded row. Count the cards still in both partners' hands and feet and write that as a minus.
- Add the round up, then carry it into the running total. After round 4 the higher total wins.
Card points and pile bonuses
A card counts for your team when it is melded and against you when it is left in your hand or foot at the end of the round.
| Joker | 50 points |
| Two, ace | 20 points |
| Eight to king | 10 points |
| Four to seven | 5 points |
| Black three | 5 points |
| Clean pile (no wild cards) | 500 points |
| Dirty pile (one or two wild cards) | 300 points |
| Wild pile (twos and jokers only) | 1500 points |
| Going out | 100 points |
| Red three on the table | +100 points |
| Red three left in hand or foot | -100 points |
A pile is a complete meld of seven cards. A meld can hold wild cards only while it has at least twice as many natural cards, so a dirty pile carries one or two of them, or three if your group allows it. To go out, a team needs two clean piles, two dirty piles and one wild pile, and the player going out asks their partner first.
House rules change the numbers
Hand and Foot has no single rule book, and groups change the bonuses, the meld minimums and the piles needed to go out. The values here are the partnership game on Pagat, the card game rules site run by John McLeod, which also lists common variations, such as a fourth round that needs a hidden canasta. The sheet leaves every box blank, so it works with your own numbers: cross out a printed value and write yours.

Hand and Foot questions
How many decks do you need for Hand and Foot?
For four players in two partnerships, five standard decks with their jokers: 270 cards. Groups that play with more people usually add one deck per extra player.
What is the minimum meld in each round?
50 points in round 1, 90 points in round 2, 120 points in round 3, 150 points in round 4. Only the card points count toward it: red threes and pile bonuses do not, so seven sixes (35 points) are not enough to open.
Do red threes count for or against you?
For you, +100 each, once they are face up on the table with your melds. A red three still in your hand or foot when the other team goes out counts -100.
Who wins Hand and Foot?
The team with the higher running total after the fourth round. Some groups play to a target score instead; the running total row works the same way.
